Morning Glass, a San Diego based band, formed in 1983 during the revival of the surf music genre. Influenced by the southern California sounds of the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and the instrumental hits of the Ventures, Morning Glass took their name from the surfing term for the quiet, still seas during the shift in tides.
Founding member Rick Edgil met Jerry DeMink through a mutual friend and when Rick mentioned playing oldies to fellow musician Rich Rothe, he soon joined in on the weekly jam sessions. With the later addition of additional members, the band soon began playing regularly at Richards Castle café in Santee, and catering to the various car club parties throughout the county. Many private parties, mall shows, and wedding receptions followed. In 1985, Morning Glass got local radio exposure after recording “(It’s Gonna Be A) Surfer’s Christmas” (available for listening on you-tube).
Today, Rick, Jerry, and Rich are joined by veteran musicians Greg Drilling on keyboards, and Bobby Bowley on drums to bring back the California surf sounds, making any event memorable. Whether the band is playing such party favorites as Pipeline, Surfin’ USA or Brown Eyed Girl, you will be assured of top entertainment for the whole family.
